The St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters released early voting numbers as of Friday evening. A total of 2,782 St. Mary Parish residents have voted early or mail-in-absentee with 1,516 of those votes coming from Morgan City.
Jolene Holcombe of the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters office said she does not expect the voter turnout to reach the 2008 presidential election turnout in St. Mary Parish, which was 68 percent. She said voter turnout may get to 60 percent, but said that was” just a guess.”
Of the total votes in the parish, white voters cast 2,054 votes, black voters cast 673 votes and voters of other races cast 55 votes. A total of 1,382 registered Democrats have voted, 1,009 registered Republicans have voted and 391 residents registered with other parties have voted. A total of 1,335 male voters have cast ballots, and 1,447 female voters have cast ballots.
The daily early voting totals for the parish were 542 votes on Oct. 23, 610 votes Wednesday, 634 votes Thursday and 757 votes Friday.
The daily totals for Morgan City were 308 votes on Oct. 23, 349 votes Wednesday, 344 votes Thursday and 400 votes Friday.
In-person early voting continues through Tuesday until 6 p.m., with the general election taking place on Nov. 6. Mail-in-absentee votes must be sent in by Nov. 5, the day before the election. Overseas military personnel have through the day of the election on Nov. 6 to get in their mail ballots.
