Retired Lourdes pathologist

LAFAYETTE – Services for retired pathologist Dr. Joseph Brierre, Jr. were Saturday. He died Nov. 1 at age 77.

He was former chairman of the Department of Pathology and director of the laboratory at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. While in the U.S. Navy he was director of laboratories and clinical research at the Naval Aerospace Research Institute in Pensacola, Fla.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter.

Arrangements were by Martin & Castille.

Former LSU Microbiology chief

BATON ROUGE – Services for retired chairman of the LSU Microbiology Dept. Dr. Marion Socolofsky will be Friday. He died Nov. 2 at age 81.

He joined LSU in 1961 and was department chairman from 1969 until 1998.

Survivors include his wife Esther and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Former Hansens Center director

GONZALES – Services for former director of the Gillis W. Long Hansen’s Disease Center James Gautreau were Saturday. He died Oct. 30 at age 82.

He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War and worked at the Hansen’s center almost 30 years.

Survivors include his wife Loris, a son and a daughter.

Arrangements were by Ourso.

Architect, inventor

BATON ROUGE – Services for architect Joseph LaBorde will be Nov. 16. He died Oct. 31 at age 85.

He was a UA Army veteran of World War II and a former member of the City-Parish Planning and Zoning Commission, the State Architects Selection Board and the Legislative Study Committee under three state administrations. He had a private practice, LaBorde and Routh, in two states and a corporate practice in 11 statees, England, Belgium and Canada. He held 24 US patents.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn and three sons.
