Defending Division 2 state champion Cabrini High knocked off Morgan City High School 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-12) in regional volleyball action Monday.

Cabrini, the No. 5 seed in Division 2, received a first round bye and hosted Monday’s action against No. 12 seed Morgan City.

After a rough first game, Morgan City was able to keep things closer in the second and third games.

Morgan City made a run early in the second set, using Marilynn Bailey digs.

The Lady Tigers’ 7-5 deficit in the second game, however, was as close as it got to Cabrini.

The hitting of such Cabrini players as Dominique Clegget, Ainsley Marrocoli and Taylor Conaway provided a challenge for the Morgan City defense.

Clegget led Cabrini with 11 kills.

Morgan City took a 2-0 lead in the third game, but the Crescents responded with an 8-1 run.

For Morgan City, Katelyn Adams recorded three kills, four digs and three assists, while Jaivieanna Jones added four kills, a dig and two blocks.

Other Morgan City contributors included Bailey, an ace and nine digs; Savannah Loupe, 10 digs; and Kloé Liner, a kill and five digs.

Other Cabrini contributors included Jena Landry with five aces and Bailey Hepting with 15 assists.

Morgan City concludes its season with a 23-17 record, while Cabrini improves to 30-10.

With the win, Cabrini advanced to the state volleyball Pontchartrain Center in Kenner where it will play No. 4 St. Scholastica, who defeated No. 13 Sam Houston, 25-16, 25-12, 25-15 in other regional action Monday.
