The Morgan City boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will open their seasons tonight on the road against Class 5A Terrebonne.

Today’s action will begin with the girls’ game at 5 p.m. followed by the boys’ action.

The soccer teams will compete in Division 2, District 8 this season with E.D. White, Ellender, South Terrebonne and Vanderbilt Catholic.

Morgan City’s boys received 20 votes in the preseason Division 2 Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association’s poll.

Alexandria is the top-ranked squad, while Vanderbilt Catholic is fourth and E.D. White is tied with Teurlings Catholic for fifth.

Morgan City’s boys will play eight of the teams that are ranked thus far during the regular season.

Preseason girls’ rankings have not been released yet.

“Both the boys and girls team are very young, and inexperienced in a lot of ways,” Morgan City boys’ and girls’ coach Trevor Patterson said. “Our schedule is very hard. We believe in that saying ‘To be the best you have to beat the best. While we may not beat them, we sure do play some of the best teams in the state. There are no easy games.”
