Leonard chaired the meeting. New board members Peggy Verret and Floyd Hymel were introduced.
The more than 300 members in attendance were treated to a chicken and sausage gumbo with homemade potato salad sponsored by Hargrave Funeral Home and prepared by Sterling and Patricia Fryou, Floyd and Shirley Hymel, and Carol Francis.
Gordon Smith performed the national anthem and prayers were given by Gene Gaudet. Members were treated to dancing with music by Hubert Francis and Charlie Fryer, followed by bingo.
Cardiovascular Institute of the South’s Dr. Darrell Solet gave a slide presentation on diseases of the heart. Maison Jardin’s Lisa Patterson urged members to participate in its “Wreaths Across America” program.
Hargrave’s Richard Lejeune introduced members of his staff, Jerry Watson, Candace Dinger, Rena Manville and Jennifer Gros. Lou’s Line Dancers provided entertainment.
It was announced that the St. Mary AARP Mardi Gras Court and Ball will be Jan. 19, 2013. Tickets are $15 each and available at the AARP office during its operating hours of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In other AARP news:
—The Nov. 26 St. Mary AARP Chapter Meal is at Tampico Restaurant in Morgan City. Tickets are $12 each, at the office, for a choice of a baby burrito or tacos.
—The next meeting is Dec. 3. Entertainment will be by Tuneweavers. The meal of roast beef, rice dressing, green beans and salad will be sponsored by Teche Regional Medical Center and will be prepared by Linda Levron and her crew.
—The Saints afghan will be given away at the Dec. 3 meeting and the St. Mary AARP 2013 Travel Brochure will be ready for pick up.
