MORGAN CITY, La. — A 28-year-old Bayou L’Ourse woman is accused of stealing more than $93,000 from her Amelia employer, according to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert in a news release.

Celeste Benoit Portier, 28, of Vivian Street in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 2:15 p.m. Monday at the St. Mary Parish sheriff’s office in Morgan City on a warrant for computer fraud, theft and unauthorized use of an access card, Hebert stated.

During an investigation, which included a forensic audit, it was learned that for about a year, Portier used a company credit card for unauthorized purchases and used a company computer to make multiple deposits from a company account into a personal account, the report stated.

More than $93,000 in misappropriated funds were identified, Hebert stated.

Citing the business as a victim, the sheriff’s spokesperson would not release the name of the business.

Portier was located by a detective at her residence with the assistance of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, the report stated.

The investigation began with a complaint from an Amelia business. The complainant stated that an ex-employee stole money from the company.

Portier was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.
