Morgan City candidates spent nearly $79,000 on election

MORGAN CITY, La. -- Campaign finance reports compiled by the Louisiana Board of Ethics show that Morgan City mayoral candidates spent $78,792.93 and received $30,398.37 in contributions during their campaigns.

These totals include finance reports up to 10 days before the primary election. The final primary election finance report is due Wednesday.

Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi’s campaign spent $15,549.96. His campaign received $4,031.38 in contributions with $1,000 from Tiger Island Hardware of Morgan City, $100 from Greg Cornes of Amelia, $500 from Sub-sea Americas of Berwick, $1,000 from name illegible, $500 from Deuce Freeman of Morgan City, $100 from Steve Sweetser of Patterson, $300 from Chris Gibson of New York City, $54.15 from Tracy Duval of Amelia and $477.23 from Sherman Marcantel of Morgan City. His campaign received a total of $12,299.44 in loans, with all loans coming from Grizzaffi.

Dragna’s campaign spent $13,709.75. His campaign received $16,500 in loans all coming from Dragna. Dragna’s campaign received a $200 contribution also from Dragna.

Candidates are required to release campaign finance reports if they receive an individual contribution of more than $200 or spend more than $2,500 during their campaigns, said Angela Newsom, compliance investigator for the Louisiana Board of Ethics.

Other Morgan City mayoral candidates also filed campaign finance reports.

Larry Bergeron’s campaign spent $15,708.43, received $9,254 in loans and $9,550 in contributions according to his finance reports. All money loaned to the campaign came from Bergeron. His campaign received $1,000 from Brenda Cloutier of Lafayette, $500 from Bob Blereau of Morgan City, $100 from Paul and Marie Vella of Morgan City, $100 from David Barousse of Morgan City, $750 from Cedric LaFleur of Morgan City, $750 from LaFleur Dairy of Morgan City, $300 from Carroll Bertaut of Morgan City, $150 from James and (name illegible) Firmin of Morgan City, $200 from Knobloch Professional Services of Morgan City, $200 from Janice C. Leblanc of Berwick, $250 from Brent and Rose Bergeron of Morgan City, $250 from Marine Applications of Morgan City, $350 from Rene Dunlap of Morgan City, $250 from A.J. Cannata of Morgan City, $500 from Twin City Funeral Home in Natchitoches, $500 from name illegible, $500 from Raleigh Cox of Baton Rouge, $1,000 from Rusty Cloutier, $100 from Emmett Sellers of Morgan City, $500 from name illegible, $300 from Maxwell Crochet of Morgan City, $250 from Melvin Bourgeois of Morgan City, $150 from Design Technologies Inc. of Morgan City, $500 from Earl King Jr., and $100 from Mary L. Kevin Voisin’s campaign spent $23,864.48, received $19,130 in contributions and $7,500 in loans, with all loans coming from Voisin, according to the reports. Voisin’s campaign received $1,000 from B.A. Red Adams Sr. of Morgan City, $500 from Bruce Adams of Morgan City, $300 from Lawrence Alleman Sr. of Morgan City, $1,000 from Atchafalaya Bonding Service of Morgan City, $500 from James W. Bart Mancuso’s campaign spent $9,960.31, received $10,000 in loans and $6,436.99 in contributions, according to the reports. All money loaned to the campaign came from Mancuso. Mancuso’s campaign received $999 from Bender Dentistry, $1,000 from Advanced Endodontics of Lafayette, $1,000 from Luke Mancuso of Lafayette, $1,000 from Anthony Governale of Morgan City, $250 from B & R Rentals of Morgan City, $250 from Brent and Rose Bergeron of Morgan City, $500 from Mary White of Morgan City, $100 from Nick Mancuso of Metairie, $200 from Jay Morell of Morgan City, $100 from John Guarisco of Lafayette, $337.99 from Lesley Flattman of Lafayette, $250 from Frances Chauvin of Lafayette, $150 from James Firmin of Morgan City, $100 from Mary Lou Cutrera of Baton Rouge, $100 from Vincent Holcomb of Morgan City, and $100 from Roger Liner of Morgan City, according to the finance reports

Newly elected District 4 Morgan City councilman James Fontenot’s campaign spent a total of $4,514.47, received a total of $5,550 in contributions during his campaign with $1,000 from Sewart Supply Inc. of Morgan City, $1,000 from Dusty Guidry of Scott, $250 from Anthony Saleme of Patterson, $500 from Greg Roussel of Berwick, $100 from Vincent Borne of Franklin, $500 from Amy Guidry of Carencro, $300 from Sally and Terry Frickey of Morgan City, $500 from GR Financial Services of Berwick, $100 from Lisa Miller of Franklin, $100 from Restaurant Supply of Morgan City, $300 from LaFleur Dairy of Morgan City, $200 from Bayouland Distributing of Morgan City, $400 from J. Phil Haney of New Iberia, $100 from G.A. Beaullieu Jr. of New Iberia, $150 from M. Bofill Duhe of New Iberia, and $50 from Philip Neal of Thibodaux, according to the finance reports.

Re-elected District 5 councilman Louis Tamporello Jr.’s campaign spent $1,842.50 during his campaign, received $550 in contributions, with $200 from Greenwood Marine Management of Morgan City, $150 from Jim Firmin of Morgan City, $100 from Mary Lou Cutrera of Baton Rouge, and $100 from Mike Knobloch of Morgan City, and the campaign received $150 in loans from Tamporello, according to the reports.

Newly elected councilman Barry Dufrene’s campaign, who ran uncontested in District 2, spent $1,711.39, received $399 in contributions and $1,600 in loans all coming from Dufrene.

Morgan City council candidate Ronald Berry’s campaign spent a total of $6,362.06 and received a total of $6,700 in contributions. His campaign received of $2,600 from Ronald Berry, $1,000 from Joe’al Berry of Patterson, $200 from Iris Berry of Berwick, $1,000 from Berry Brothers of Berwick, $1,000 from Doyle Berry of Berwick, $500 from Russ A. Settoon of Pierre Part, and $400 from Gregory J. Hamer Jr. of Morgan City.

Councilmen Ron Bias and Tim Hymel and city council candidates Mac R. Bruno, C.E. “Charlie” Pratt and Drue C. Clement did not file.

The requirements for filing are set by the Louisiana Board of Ethics, but the board does not have a way of knowing whether candidates who do not file were required to file, said Communications Director Alainna Giacone.
