Centerville improved to 8-1 on the season while Franklin slipped to 0-4.
Centerville will play E.D. White tonight at 8:00 and Franklin will play Jeanerette at 5:00.
Centerville raced outfront by a 21-8 first quarter advantage before securing a a 33-20 halftime cushion. Franklin went on a 19-13 surge in the third quarter, slicing Centerville’s lead to 46-39. FSHS outpointed Centerville in the final period but it was too late as the Bulldogs held on for the 61-59 win.
Jarian Brown led the Hornets in scoring with 18 points on three treys, a trio of deuces and 3 for 3 free throws. Tarence Clark fired in 17 points on seven floor shots along with a 3 for 5 night from the line. Derrick Kelly burned the nets for 14 points, making good on four treys and one deuce.
Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were: Brennen Robinson, 8 and Jamal Johnson, 2.
Jumanji Washington, Jerome Williams, Juwan Thomas and Rodney Harris all scored in double digits to propel the Bulldogs.
Washington bagged three treys, a pair of deuces along with 1 of 2 free throws or 14 points while Williams canned six deuces and 2 of 6 charity shots for his 14 points. Thomas made good on six deuces and 1 of 2 free throws for 13 points with Rodney Harris draining 12 points on six floor shots.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were: Zacchaeus Jackson, 5; Rodrick Harris, 2 and Quinton Nettles,1.
In the other games in the opening round of the Tournament of the Teche, Houma Christian toppled the Berwick Lady Panthers 46-42 in overtime; Lafayette Christian downed the Centerville Lady Bulldogs 50-38; the Morgan City Tigers defeated the Berwick Panthers, 56-19; the E. D. White Cardinals nipped the Jeanerette Tigers 36-34 in double overtime.
On tap for today: Berwick’s Lady Panthers will battle the Centerville Lady Bulldogs at 3:30 (CHS Junior High Gym); the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers will play Houma Christian at 3:30 p.m; the Jeanerette Tigers will face off against the Franklin Hornets at 5 p.m; Houma Christian will battle the Morgan City Tigers at 6:30 p.m with the E. D. White Cardinals will square off against the Centerville Bulldogs at 8 .
Lafayette Christian earned a 50-38 win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs.
Centerville is now 2-4 on the season.
Lafayette Christian was led in scoring by Kristin Sonnier (14); Lexie Moreau (12) and Naomi Melancon (12).
Centerville’s top scorer was Nyketra Kennedy with 15 points while Roshayla Gunner recorded 9 while Kayla Robinson tallied 5.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were: Rylie Candella, 4; Alyrria Austin, 2; Kemprielle Williams, 2; and Sabrina Louis, 1.

In Saturday’s opener, the Girls Third Place game will be played at 10:30 a.m. The Girls Finals is set for Noon. the Boys Consolation is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with the Boys Third Place game set to tip off at 3 p.m while the Boys Finals is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
