Former ULL Ag chief

LAFAYETTE – Services are Monday for former ULL Ag Department head Dr. John Mitchell. He died Nov. 29.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II, including the Battle of Peleliu Island, and the Korean War. He held the Bronze Star. He was a supervisor with the state Dept. of Education before joining ULL. He was a former president of the La. Teachers Assn. while a teacher at Winnfield High.

Survivors include his wife Louise and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Delhomme.

Long-time vet

ALEXANDRIA – Services will be Tuesday for long-time vet Dr. Dale Turner. He died Nov. 30 at age 76.

He practiced for more than 20 years before blindness forced his retirement. He was co-founder of the Central Louisiana Food Bank and president of the Coalition Against Homelessness in Central Louisiana. He was a former La. vet of the year.

Survivors include his wife Janice and three children.

Arrangements are by Hixson Brothers.

St. Louis Cathedral rector

NEW ORLEANS – Services for the Rev. Msgr. Crosby Kern, rector of St. Louis Cathedral, will be Thursday. He did Nov. 30 at age 73.

He had service parishes in the New Orleans area for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his mother.

Arrangements are by Lakelawn, Metairie.
