MORGAN CITY — Patterson edged Morgan City, 60-56, in a battle of local prep teams Tuesday.

While Morgan City jumped out to a 22-10 lead after a quarter behind the hot shooting of Casey Chenevert, who finished the quarter with 19 points, including four three-pointers, Patterson had cut the lead to seven at 35-28 by halftime.

At the end of the third quarter, both teams were tied at 44, while Patterson outscored Morgan City, 16-12, in the fourth for the final.

Tala Johnson and Tiera Butler led Patterson with 17 points apiece. Johnson added 11 rebounds and a block, while Butler also recorded nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

Other top Patterson contributors included Jazmin Evans, 10 points, two rebounds and a steal; Jamiri Brown, five points and two rebounds; and Alex Benjamin, five points, three rebounds, a steal and a block.

Chenevert led Morgan City (4-6) with 30 points, including six three-pointers, while Meya Morse had 16 and Nakerial Bourgeois had three to lead Morgan City.

Patterson will return to action Thursday when it hosts Jeanerette at 6 p.m., while Morgan City will hit the court again Tuesday when it hosts Belle Chasse at 5:30 p.m.

Berwick defeats

Highland Baptist

Berwick High picked up a 44-35 victory against Highland Baptist on the road Tuesday.

Haley Girard led Berwick with 13 points, while other top contributors included Abigail Ohlin and Khadijah Johnson with 10 points apiece.

Berwick (3-4) will return to action Friday when it hosts Ascension Episcopal in a 6 p.m. contest.

CCHS defeats

Franklin, 60-33

Central Catholic outscored Franklin in every quarter except the third in a 60-33 victory on the road Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles raced out to a 21-5 first quarter advantage and outscored Franklin, 12-7, in the second quarter for a 33-12 halftime advantage.

Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter, while Central Catholic outscored Franklin, 17-11, in the fourth.

Meo Knight recorded a double-double in the win with 12 points and 15 rebounds as well as five blocks, six steals and four assists, while Randi Brown added 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals

Other top contributors for Central Catholic included Caroline Byrne, 11 points, two steals, one assist and four rebounds; Megan Landry, eight points, two steals, one assist and five rebounds; Courtney McGuire, four points, one block, two steals and three rebounds; Abbie Bergeron, three points, one block, three steals, four assists and two rebounds; and Carlie Boagni, three points and a rebound.

Central Catholic will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Vandebilt Catholic’s tournament.
