MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City High School boys’ soccer team put up a valiant effort against Beau Chene, Division 2’s second-ranked squad, but ultimately fell 3-1 Thursday.

While the game was tied at 1 with five minutes remaining in the contest, Beau Chene was able to pull off the win with two goals, one on a long throw-in that was touched by Morgan City’s goal keeper and another via a Morgan City defensive error.

Hector Calderon scored the Tigers’ lone goal.

In the girls’ contest, Morgan City picked up a 3-0 victory.

A goal apiece by Celeste Williams and Sarah Patterson put the Lady Tigers, who are receiving votes in the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 poll, up 2-0. Williams’ goal came less than a minute into the contest.

“We seemed as if we were going to run with it, but even though we dominated the whole game, we just couldn't score any more goals.”

In the second half, Morgan City netted two more goals, including one by Williams via a free kick.

Both squads will return to action Dec. 14 when they begin district play on the road at South Terrebonne. Girls’ action is set for a 5 p.m. start, with boys’ play to follow.
