PRAIRIEVILLE -- A Texas man was killed when a trailer came loose from another vehicle and crashed into his vehicle on Interstate 10.

State Police said the accident happened Friday afternoon near the Bluff Road overpass in Ascension Parish, killing David Hammer, 64, of League City, Texas.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as 35 year old Michael B. Munson of Donaldsonville was driving a 2001 Ford F-350 west on I-10.

At the same time, Hammer was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 east on I-10. Munson was towing an empty utility trailer behind his truck, and for unknown reasons the trailer became unattached from his vehicle. After disconnecting from the truck, the trailer crossed the median through an opening between the median cable barriers and a guardrail.

The trailer then entered the eastbound lanes of travel and struck the F-150 driven by Hammer. Hammer’s vehicle then left the roadway to the right, crossed back across the eastbound lanes of travel, and came to rest against the median cable barriers.

We know how to have prevented this death. The trailer is in Violation of Federal Code and the police in Liuisana did not inspect this defective trailer www.dangeroustrailers.org
