The remains of the former St. Mary Iron Works structure on Fifth Street are being demolished. Last known as St. Mary Metal Forms, the business began operation in about 1908, and briefly shut down in about 1989. That same year it was acquired by the Metal Forms corporation, but only stayed open until about 1993. Coastal Demolition of Beaumont, Texas is carrying out the demolition under a permit issued Dec. 3.
