Franklin, HMS Lady Tigers notch HMS Holiday Classic wins

The Franklin Senior High School Hornets, Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers and the West St. Mary Wolfpack all notched victories in the annual First National Bank of Jeanerette-Hanson Holiday Classic Wednesday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.

In the opener, the Franklin Hornets defeated the Delcambre Panthers 77-45. The West St. Mary Wolfpack toppled the Kaplan Pirates in the second game. The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers prevailed over the Patterson Lady Jills, 54-22, in the nightcap.

In action today, the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack will battle the Franklin Lady Hornets at 4:30 p.m. The E. D. White Lady Cardinals will square off against the Teurlings Lady Rebels at 6 p.m. The Franklin Hornets will take on the West St. Mary Wolfpack in tonight’s finale at 7:30.

FRANKLIN 77, DELCAMBRE 45

Jarion Brown scored a season-high 30 points, lifting the Franklin Hornets to a 77-45 victory over the Delcambre Panthers in the opening contest of the Hanson Holiday Classic.

Franklin dominated from the opening wire, building an 18-7 lead at the end of the first period. Franklin built a 32-20 lead at the half. In the third quarter, the Hornets kept the upper hand, taking a 49-34 advantage. Down the stretch, the Hornets went on a 28-11 spurt to post the huge 77-45 triumph.

Brown led the way for the Hornets with a game-high 30 points on five treys, three deuces and 9 of 12 free throws. Tarence Clark fired in 17 points, bagging eight field goals and 1 of 2 charity shots. Brennen Robinson tossed in 13 points on six deuces and 1 of 2 free throws.

Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were: Brandon McFarlane, 7; Cedric Paul, 6 and Derrick Kelly, 4.

Franklin (4-6) will play the West St. Mary Wolfpack tonight at 7:30 in the Hanson Holiday Classic.

HANSON LADY TIGERS 54, PATTERSON LADY JILLS 22

Macie Guillotte and Emily Sonnier scored in double figures, sending the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a 54-22 victory over the Patterson Lady Jills in Wednesday’s nightcap.

Hanson jumped outfront by an 8-4 lead in the initial period before securing a 24-9 halftime cushion. The Lady Tigers took a commanding 49-11 advantage at the end of three quarters en route to the 54-22 victory.

Guillotte led all scorers with a game-high 14 points on three treys, a pair of deuces and 1 of 3 charity shots. Emily Sonnier canned six floor shots for 12 points.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Kim Sonnier, 7; Brittany Broussard, 4; Katie Sonnier, 5; Alyssa Young, 3; Caitlin St. Blanc, 3; Casey Fitzgerald, 2; Haley Bollinger, 2 and Destiny Landry, 2.

With the win, the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers earned their way into the Girls Championship game which is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
