FORDOCHE -- A teenager was killed when his pickup left the road and struck a utility poll. He was wearing a seatbelt.

State Police said Hunter Kirkland, 18, of Morganza left LA 77 south of LA 81 in Pointe Coupee Parish about noon Sunday.

For unknown reasons Kirkland failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and his vehicle ran off the roadway to the right.

After leaving the roadway, Kirkland overcorrected causing his vehicle to cross back across both lanes of LA 77. The GMC exited the roadway and struck a utility pole.
