MORGAN CITY, La. -- Whether 2012 was the best year yet or you’re hoping 2013 will bring more joy, the year has been memorable.

As is tradition with the close of the year, reflections on the past and hopes for the future bring about resolutions for many.

Jimmy Manuel of Morgan City, who will turn 94 in January, said he hopes to keep getting The Daily Review.

He and his wife just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary Sunday.

As residents shuffled in and out of the Brashear Avenue post office Friday, several more told of their resolutions:

—Jacob Marcell of Morgan City: To get Parrie’s Louisiana Grill open.

—Sally Lawton of Morgan City: To lose weight.

—Christina Valentine of Morgan City: “To stop smoking before the new year comes in and be in church more active.”

—Douglas Sanchez of Morgan City: To continue walking five to seven days a week.

—Darrell Hartman of Morgan City: “To get myself together bills-wise and stuff, and also get myself back into church service for sure.”

Local leaders shared their resolutions as well.

—Morgan City Mayor Tim Matte: “I am not going to text while driving. I try to avoid it, but you get into that habit and so that’s my new year’s resolution. I’m going to try to exercise more and lose a little weight too.”

—Morgan City Mayor-elect Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi: “To engage our citizens to make Morgan City a great place to live.”

—Berwick Mayor Louis Ratcliff: “Continue to lose weight.”

—Patterson Mayor Rodney Grogan: “To continue moving Patterson forward economically, socially and spiritually.” His personal resolution? “To continue to improve my leadership skills.”

—Rep. Sam Jones, D-Franklin: “I’m working on three industrial expansion projects that would create a good bit of jobs.” Another wish? “At least a couple of our high schools would win state championships this year.”

—Superintendent Donald Aguillard: “Continued academic gains for our students, every high school student committed to graduating college or career ready, strong value added scores for our value-added model and Student Learning Targets teachers, steady funding for the school system, no hurricanes or flood events in 2013 and a year where we resolve to work tirelessly to guarantee the safety of our children.
