Price picked up the truck Dec. 27, he said. The truck is a commercial pumper to replace the truck that went out of service after a mechanical failure several months ago. The fire department had planned to purchase a new pumping truck in 2013 before the mechanical failure on the old truck expedited the need for a new truck, Price said.
In December, the city council approved the purchase of the new truck in the 2012 amended budget, which had already been approved to be purchased in 2013. The truck cost $218,898.
The fire department received four or five other bids, but Ferrara’s bid was the only one that could be delivered right away, Price said.
The fire department now has four fire engines, including the new pumping truck, one ladder truck and one utility truck, he said.
