The incident occurred around 5 a.m. Saturday, according to Lt. Sandy Carmine of the U.S. Coast Guard. No injuries or pollution was reported, Carmine said.
Morgan City Police responded to the incident at 5:10 a.m., said Assistant Police Chief Glenn Blanco. The Department of Transportation and Development authorized the reopening of the bridge at 8:07 a.m., Blanco said.
There was some damage to the bridge’s fendering system, which is used to protect the bridge, and to the lead barge, Carmine said.
Who was at fault has not been determined, and the Coast Guard is still investigating the case, Carmine said.
