Program to help with Cleco bills opens Wednesday

The St. Mary/Vermilion Community Action Agency will be accepting applications for the Cleco Alternative Rate for Electricity Program beginning Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, according to Almetra J. Franklin, CEO of the agency.

The program will provide a 25 percent discount on the fuel cost portion of a Cleco bill during July, August and September.

Applications will be taken at:

—St. Mary Central Office: 337-828-5703/5705, 1407 Barrow St., Franklin.

—Baldwin Neighborhood Service Center: 337-923-4657, 305 Hwy 83, Baldwin.

—Sparrow Gardens Complex: 337-836-5263, Deforest Brown Lane, Centerville.

—Morgan City Neighborhood Service Center: 985-384-7446, Chennault St., Morgan City.

Applicants for the program will need identification, Social Security cards for everyone in the household, current proof of income, and current light bill.

Applicants who have earned income must have the last four pay stubs.

This program is based on income guidelines.
