Christopher Thomas Singleton, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 9 a.m. Thursday for driving under suspension, improper display of license plate, failure to secure registration, no insurance, disturbing the peace by using foul language, resisting an officer, and unlawful disruption of a school, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a vehicle with an expired motor vehicle inspection sticker and conducted a traffic stop on Julia Street in Amelia.
The driver stopped his vehicle in the parking lot of J.S. Aucoin Elementary School. While sheriff’s deputies were speaking with Singleton, he began to curse and refused the deputies requests to stop.
Because of Singleton’s demeanor, the school was placed on lockdown by the principal as a precautionary measure.
During the investigation, the deputy learned that Singleton was driving with a suspended license and no insurance. Singleton was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on a $2,250 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
—Tina Louise Dugar, 34, of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 10:09 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear for traffic violations and on warrants from Morgan City police for traffic violations. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area received information of a subject who was wanted on a warrant at Plantation Inn. Dugar was located there and taken to the parish jail and held. Her bail is set at $978.50. Dugar was taken to the Morgan City Police Department.
—Andrew Hebert, 20, of Moise Lane in Church Point, was arrested at 12:53 p.m. Thursday for theft. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area responded to a complaint of shoplifting at Walmart in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival the deputy learned from store security that Hebert was observed taking video games from the game aisle. Following the investigation Hebert was released on a summons to appear in court April 17.
—Adam Wade Roy, 26, of Missy Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:44 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for criminal neglect of family. A deputy located Roy at his residence on the warrant. Roy was taken to the parish jail and held. His bail is set at $1,500.
—Jeffery Smith Jr., 22, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 6:48 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear for seatbelt violation and driving under suspension. A deputy located Smith on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia on the warrant. Smith was taken to the parish jail and held. His bail is set at $750.
—Jose Antonio Beltran, 31, of Allison Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:38 p.m. Thursday for driving while intoxicated second offense, improper lane usage, and driving under suspension.
A deputy observed a vehicle swerving from lane to lane on La. 182 in Amelia and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Beltran. While speaking with him, the deputy noticed the odor of alcohol emanating from Beltran’s breath and person. Beltran performed poorly on the field sobriety test and later submitted a .129-percent blood alcohol content reading on the Intoxilyzer 5000 breathe test, the report stated. Beltran was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Drozin Hebert, 46, of California Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. Thursday for domestic abuse battery. He is being held with no bail set.
