BAYOU VISTA, La. -- Darren Michael Freeman, 31, 225 Saturn Road, Bayou Vista, La., was arrested at 12:17 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, for vagrancy, according to a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint from a Bayou Vista busi-ness of a subject coming in and asking for cigarettes. While responding to that complaint, the sheriff's office received a second complaint from Walmart in Bayou Vista stating that a subject who had previously been on the premises asking patrons for money and goods was back in the store.

The deputy located Freeman and, through the course of the investigation, identified him as the subject who has habitually begged businesses and their patrons for money or goods. In some instances Freeman became aggressive in his requests for charity, the report stated.

Freeman was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set at this time.

Suspicious activity may be reported to the sheriff's office by calling 985-384-1622 and 337-828-1960.
