MORGAN CITY — Central Catholic routed Gueydan, 86-35, in District 8-1A action Friday.

Central Catholic outscored its visitors in every quarter, including a 30-10 advantage after a period of play.

By halftime, the Eagles had extended their lead to 47-17, and the Eagles’ lead had ballooned to 66-27 after three quarters.

Every Eagle scored in the victory, coach Ree Case said.

Nicholas Case led Central Catholic with 15 points, while Stephano Guarisco added 11 and Dontrell Brown and Cedric Gant added 10 apiece.

Central Catholic (13-3, 2-0 in district), ranked second in the latest Class 1A Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll, will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Franklin for a district contest with Hanson Memorial. Junior varsity boy’s action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start with varsity girls set to follow at 6:30 p.m. and varsity boys set for a 7:30 p.m. start.

Patterson remains perfect

in district

Patterson eased past Erath, 63-33, in District 9-3A action on the road Friday.

The ’Jacks jumped out to a 16-7 lead after a quarter, extended their lead to 41-16 at the half, and 55-23 after three quarters.

Erath held a slim 10-8 scoring margin in the fourth quarter.

Larry Turner and Daylon Charlot led Patterson with 13 points apiece, while Deondre Skinner added 10.

Other top Patterson contributors included Dontrell Benjamin, seven; Mykel Jones, six; Nehemiah Augustus and Malik Garrett, four apiece; and Jedrick Gunner, three.

Patterson (10-5 overall, 6-0 in District 9-3A) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts North Vermilion. Tipoff is set to follow the girls’ 6 p.m. contest.

Vandebilt Catholic edges

Morgan City

Vandebilt Catholic edged Morgan City, 55-50, in District 8-4A boys’ hoops action Friday in Houma.

While Morgan City jumped out to a 16-13 lead after a period of play and had extended its lead to 24-18 with four minutes remaining in the second quarter, Vandebilt came back and took a 30-26 lead into halftime and a 45-41 lead after three quarters.

Although Morgan City had trimmed Vandebilt’s lead to 51-50 with less than a minute remaining, the Tigers could get no closer.

Jaylen Jones and Tyrin Watts had 15 points apiece for Morgan City, while Malcolm Watkins added eight points in the loss.

Morgan City (11-9 overall, 1-2 in district play) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Assumption High.

Boys junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start, while boys’ varsity is set for a 7:30 p.m. tip following the girls’ game.

Franklin overwhelms Berwick

The Franklin Hornets overwhelmed the Berwick Panthers, 72-47, in District 9-3A action Friday in Berwick.

While Berwick led 7-6 after a period of play, Franklin outscored Berwick 24-11 in the second quarter for a 30-18 lead at the half.

Berwick ended the half on a positive note as Nicholas Osburn nailed a buzzer-beater from well beyond half court.

In the third quarter, the Panthers outscored Franklin 18-15 to cut their deficit to 45-36.

However, Franklin responded with a 27-11 fourth-quarter advantage for the victory.

“The boys played an excellent game … and just had some trouble making baskets at the end of the game,” Coach Andy Walker said. “They played great defensively, and I am very proud of how well they played as a team. We will continue to work hard at practice to improve our shooting down the stretch.”

Osburn led Berwick with 14 points, while Devin Tabor added 10. Brandon Naverro and Nick Canty added seven and six points, respectively, in the loss.

Berwick (6-20 overall, 0-6 in district play) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Erath.

Varsity action is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
