The Franklin Senior High School Hornets upped their District 9-3A record to 5-2 with a 47-42 league victory over the Abbeville Wildcats Tuesday at the FSHS Gym.

Franklin (11-12, 5-2) seized control in the second stanza and never looked back on the way to the lead victory.

Franklin stretched an 11-10 lead to a 30-18 halftime advantage following a 19-8 second quarter run. In the second half, Abbeville fought back with a 24-17 flurry but it was too late as the FSHS Hornets earned the 47-42 district win.

DeAndre Charles led the Hornets in scoring with 14 points on one trey, three deuces and 5 of 6 free throws. Jarion Brown also finished in double digits with 10 points on three field goals, including one three-pointer, along with 1 of 2 charity shots.

Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were: Simeon Thoedile, 7; Brennen Robinson, 7; Tarence Clark, 6; Jamal Johnson, 4 and Brandon McFarlane, 1.

Franklin will travel to face North Vermilion on Friday in District 9-3A action.
