Central Catholic is the top-ranked team in Class 1A, while Patterson is receiving votes in Class 3A in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association boys’ basketball polls.

Central Catholic (13-3), who recorded wins against then-No. 7 ranked Ascension Episcopal (52-33) and Gueydan (86-35) during the past week, took over the top spot from Christian Life.

Central Catholic defeated Christian Life (15-5) earlier this season.

The Eagles received eight first-place votes and 117 points, while Christian Life received the other two first-place votes and 112 total points.

Central Catholic will return to action tonight when it travels to face Hanson Memorial.

Also in Class 1A, Central Catholic’s district foe, Ascension Episcopal, moved up one spot from last week to No. 6.

In Class 3A, Patterson (10-5) gained slightly more ground as it received four votes in the latest prep poll.

Last week, the ‘Jacks received one vote.

Patterson’s opponent this evening, North Vermilion, is ranked No. 10 in Class 3A.

Patterson, who is undefeated in District 9-3A play at 6-0, already has handily beaten North Vermilion on the road earlier this season, 59-37.

In Class 4A, Morgan City’s district foe, Vandebilt Catholic, is receiving 17 votes in the latest poll.

Vandebilt edged Morgan City in Houma Friday, 55-50.
