A 27-year-old Bayou Vista woman was arrested Tuesday by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for child desertion of her three young children after they were found unsupervised near a roadway in December.

Nicole Swackhamer, 27, of Arlington Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for child desertion. A deputy located Swackhamer at her residence on the warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation that began Dec. 21, 2012.

The sheriff’s office received a complaint of three children, ages 2, 5 and 7, near the roadway unsupervised on Arlington Street. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Swackhamer had walked to a local store to purchase diapers leaving the children at home due to the cold weather, the report stated. The deputy contacted the Office of Child Services. Swackhamer was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
