MORGAN CITY — Morgan City fell to Assumption, 74-32, in District 8-4A action Tuesday.
No individual statistics were available for the Lady Tigers, who dropped to 7-15 overall and 1-3 in district play with the loss.
Morgan City will return to action Tuesday when it hosts A.J. Ellender in the second round of district play.
Central Catholic beats Hanson
Central Catholic defeated Hanson Memorial, 46-29, in District 8-1A girls’ basketball action in Franklin Tuesday.
While Central Catholic led 18-12 after a period of play, Hanson matched Central Catholic’s scoring effort in the second quarter with seven points for a 25-19 Central Catholic advantage at the half.
The Lady Eagles extended their lead to 34-24 following a 9-5 third-quarter advantage.
Randi Brown led Central Catholic with a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds as well as two blocks and two steals, while Meo Knight also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds as well as four assists, four steals and two blocks.
Other top Central Catholic contributors included Abbie Bergeron, seven points, two steals and three rebounds; Makayla McDaniel, six points, one block, three steals, three assists and three rebounds; and Megan Landry, two points, two blocks, three steals, two assists and two rebounds.
Central Catholic (15-6 overall, 3-0 in district), ranked third in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll and fifth in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association unofficial power rankings, will return to action Friday when it faces Vermilion Catholic, who is ranked second in the Class 1A poll and is the top-ranked team according to power rankings, which are used to determine playoff seeding.
Patterson falls to
North Vermilion
Patterson fell to Class 3A’s ninth-ranked squad, North Vermilion, 52-17, in District 9-3A play Tuesday in Patterson.
While the Lumberjills trailed just 11-7 after a period of play, North Vermilion pulled away in the second quarter when it outscored the locals 23-3.
Patterson was held scoreless in the third quarter, while North Vermillion put up 11 points for a 45-10 advantage.
In the fourth, both teams scored seven points.
Tiera Butler led Patterson with five points, seven rebounds, two steals and six blocks, while Jazmine Evans added four points.
Other top contributors included Gaylen Grogan, three points, three rebounds, a steal and a block and Jamile Tate, three points, two rebounds and a steal.
Patterson (3-15 overall, 2-6 in district) will return to action Friday when it travels to Berwick for district play. Girls’ varsity action will follow the boys’ junior varsity game at 5 p.m.
Berwick falls at Erath
Berwick matched Erath point for point in the first quarter but just couldn’t keep it up for the remainder of the game as it fell to Erath, 58-28, in District 9-3A action Tuesday.
While both teams scored 10 points in the first quarter, Erath outscored Berwick 14-6 in the second period for a 24-16 lead at the half.
Erath held scoring advantages of 19-7 in the third and 15-5 in the fourth for the final.
Abigail Ohlin led Berwick with 15 points, while Hayley Girard added seven and Ajia Robinson chipped in three to lead the squad.
Berwick (6-11 overall, 2-6 in district) will return to action Friday when they host Patterson. Girls’ varsity action will follow the boys’ 5 p.m. junior varsity contest.
