According to sources, Louisiana State Police identified Wilbur Thibodeaux as the shooter in the incident. Thibodeaux was also shot at the scene before taken into custody.

LSP may have also discovered a civilian dead on Flattown Road, and linked with the shooting. No further details as of now.

Police cordoned off the area around Flattown Road in Charenton near Cypress Bayou Casino late Saturday morning.

Unofficial and unconfirmed reports indicate one individual started a fire at two residential properties, one of which was possibly a vehicle, and first responders were called out.

There has been an arrest made and the person taken into custody. Unvalidated reports are of two police being shot, one possibly dead. The fallen officer was reportedly a Chitimacha Tribal Police officer.

Acadian AirMed reportedly airlifted one victim to a Lafayette hospital, and one to New Orleans, reports indicate.

The alleged shooter was treated and released in custody from Franklin Foundation Hospital, according to witnesses at the facility.
