NVHS Patriots hold off Hornets

LEROY _ A cold shooting second quarter hampered the Franklin Senior High School Hornets in their 59-53 District 9-3A setback at the hands of the North Vermilion Patriots here Friday at the NVHS Gym.

Franklin, which scored in double digits in three quarters, could only manage six points in the second period as the Patriots gained a 29-17 halftime cushion. The Hornets used an 18-10 third quarter flurry to close the gap at 39-35. North Vermilion went on a narrow 20-18 fourth quarter surge to stroll away with the 59-53 league win.

Jarion Brown paced the Hornets attack with 16 points on four deuces, a pair of treys and 2 of 6 free throws. DeAndre Charles followed with 15 points on three treys, a pair of deuces and 2 of 2 free throws. Jamal Johnson finished in double digits with 12 points on six field goals.

Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were: Simieon Thoedile, 5; Tarence Clark, 3 and Brennen Robison, 2.

Nick Cooper led the Patriots with 15 points.

Franklin (11-13, 5-3) will return to action next Friday at Kaplan.
