BERWICK — The Berwick Lady Panthers defeated neighboring District 9-3A foe Patterson, 38-33, Friday.
While Patterson jumped out to a 9-2 advantage after a period of play, the Lady Panthers clawed their way back into the game, outscoring Patterson in the remaining three quarters.
Berwick’s big quarter came in the third when it outscored Patterson 13-5.
The scoring advantage erased Patterson’s 17-11 halftime deficit and gave Berwick a 24-22 lead after three quarters.
Berwick had its highest scoring output of the game in the final quarter as it outscored Patterson, 14-11, for the final.
The win was Berwick’s fourth in its last six contests and its third district win in its last five district contests.
Abigail Ohlin led Berwick with 18 points, while other top scorers included Hayley Girard, eight; Khadijah Johnson, six; and Celeste Bowers, four.
Tiera Butler recorded a double-double for Patterson with 14 points and 11 rebounds as well as four steals.
Other top Patterson scorers included Jazmin Evans, eight points and two rebounds; Tala Johnson, four points, nine rebounds and two steals; and Destiny White, three points, a rebound and a steal.
Berwick (7-12 overall, 3-5 in district play) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts North Vermilion in District 9-3A play. North Vermilion is ranked eighth in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A poll.
Patterson (3-14 overall, 2-6 in district) will host Kaplan in District 9-3A play.
