Floyd LeBlanc presided at the installation of officers for the club. Newly installed officers for 2013 were Pat Blanco, president; Yvonne Roy, vice president; EmmaDel Broussard, secretary and Howard Winston, treasurer.
Following the installation ceremony, Linda Darce presented outgoing president Floyd LeBlanc with a plaque and a gift from the club in appreciation of his time and service. Floyd thanked the membership for their help during his tenure in office.
Newly elected president Pat Blanco requested a moment of silence for Martha Gardner, Eloise Tutela and other club members that are ill.
Chairperson Jeanette Clements requested the drawing for Secret Pals be postponed until the February meeting as many of those participating weren’t at the meeting.
It was announced that the Golden Age Club in conjunction with the Council on Aging will have a float in the Baldwin Mardi Gras parade in Baldwin on Feb. 9 and in the Franklin Mardi Gras parade Mardi Gras day. The current Franklin Golden Age King John Benge and Queen Pat Blanco will ride the float along with any other club members wishing to do so.
It was voted on and approved that future meetings of the Franklin Golden Age Club be held the second Tuesday of each month, starting in March. Other proposals to be voted on will be held at the February meeting. All members are encouraged to attend.
Visitors to the meeting were Gwen Trahan, Winston Morgan and Loxie Bodin.
Club members celebrating birthdays in January are Elise Breaux, Clifton Broussard, Martha Gardner, Charlene LeBlanc and Marcelle Simpson.
The next meeting will be held Tue., Feb. 19, due to the Mardi Gras holiday. The club will furnish gumbo cooked by John and Verline Keenze. Members should bring a side dish to complement the meal.
