LeRoyal Julian Dupre Jr., a resident of Belle River, passed away Jan. 30, 2013, in Morgan City at the age of 70.
LeRoyal was a truck driver for many years. He was well respected and had many loyal friends. His heart’s work was being a minister. He was ordained bishop in 1982 in The Church of God. He pastored churches in Louisiana and Arkansas. At his death he was still pastoring and a district overseer of Louisiana. Six weeks before he passed, although very sick, he conducted Sunday school. It was his desire to work and to serve God to the end. God granted that desire. LeRoyal served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War.
LeRoyal is survived by his wife and the love of his life. On Feb. 15, 1962, he married Laura Lee Gaspard. He also is survived by two sons, Randy Dale Dupre and his wife, Tessie, and Glynn Lee Dupre, both of Belle River; a daughter, Wanda Marie Dupre of Belle River; his mother, Grace Dupre of Belle River; one brother, Ray Dupre of Smyrna, Tenn.; two sisters, Coral Joy of Gallatin, Tenn., and Fay Connie Kohn of Folsum; seven grandchildren, Chasity Ricard and her husband, Chad, Brandy Dupre, Brandon Dupre, Chris Chism and Tiffany Chism, all of Belle River, and Jad Michael Dupre and Blain Landry, both of Berwick; and three great-grandchildren, Tommy Lee Bates, Swade Ricard and Chad Ricard Jr.
LeRoyal was preceded in death by one son, LeRoyal Julian Dupre III; his father, LeRoyal J. Dupre Sr.; his grandmothers, Annie Bourg, Bertha Dupre and Annie Dupre; and his grandfathers, Alden Vaughn, Clement Dupre and Leon Bourg.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 1 at Hargrave Funeral Home from 6 to 10 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, Feb. 2, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Services will begin at 3 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home. LeRoyal will be laid to rest in The Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery in Belle River. LeRoyal will receive full military honors at graveside.
