In observance of Arbor Day, Bayou Vista Garden Club members gathered at Claire House in Bayou Vista to dedicate a recently planted Shumard Oak. The tree was dedicated to honor Gloria Roy for her service as Bayou Vista Garden Club president from 2011-13. The oak is native to Louisiana and one of the largest species in the southern red oak group making it an excellent shade tree. According to the club, the fruit is an important component of the diets of numerous species of songbirds and other wildlife. In attendance were, from left, Roy, club members Jo Ann Ryan, Marge Williams and Donna Bucci, and Claire House representatives Jerilyn Breaux and Beth Duet. Club member Janice Verret was also present.
