Patterson Garden Club members and city dignitaries stand in front of a tree that was planted in honor of late garden club member and Patterson Councilwoman Claire Sawyer after an Arbor Day ceremony Jan. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson. In attendance were Goldie Cardinale, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Scott, Daisy LeBlanc, Cleo Picou, Iris Roy, Barbara Lacoste, Gretchen Lambert, Mr. and Mrs. Armando Rosado, the Revs. Donavan Labbe and Rex Broussard, Councilman John Rentrop, Fay Drobnic, Ginger Griffin, Lena Bernauer, Councilman Charles Sawyer (widow of Claire Sawyer), Linda Thomas, Bobbi Diaz, Tom Sawyer, Fedora Boudreaux, Jan Larocca, Evelyn Estay, Mayor Rodney Grogan and Nadine Montgomery.
Hailey Skiles, second-grader in Brandy Breaux’s class at Hattie Watts Elementary in Patterson, won the Patterson Garden Club contest to create the cover for the Arbor Day ceremony program. On hand for her plaque presentation Friday were, from left, assistant principals Shannon Hoffpauir and Charles Foulcard, Breaux, Skiles with her parents Emily and Patrick Skiles, St. Mary Parish Schools superintendent Don Aguillard and principal Niki Fryou.
