Wolfpack wrap up 6-2A title

JEANERETTE _ The West St. Mary Wolfpack wrapped up the District 6-2A championship here Tuesday with a perfect 7-0 record following a 61-59 league victory over the Jeanerette Tigers here at the JHS Gymnasium.

West St. Mary successfully defended its 2012 District 6-2A Championship by edging Jeanerette Tuesday night with one district game remaining on the schedule on Friday with Catholic High of New Iberia visiting the WSMHS Gym in the season finale.

West St. Mary upped its current district record to an impeccable 7-0 mark with Tuesday’s 61-59 triumph over Jeanerette.

The Wolfpack spotted the Tigers an 11-9 first quarter lead before seizing control in the second quarter with a 27-26 halftime cushion. At the end of the third quarter, West St. Mary extended its lead to 35-31. With their second consecutive district title on the line, the Wolfpack flexed its muscles to grind out the narrow 61-59 victory over the Tigers to wrap up the 2012-2013 District 6-2A title.

David Robinson and Glenn Marsh led the way for the Wolfpack with 14 points apiece while Adonis Sterling finished with 13 points.

Robinson canned five field goals, including a pair of treys, along with 2 of 2 free throws.

Marsh made good on five deuces and 4 of 8 charity shots.

Sterling pumped in a pair of 3-pointers and two deuces along with 3 of 4 freebies.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wolfpack were: Travis Jones, 7; Theron Jack, 5; Jeremiah White, 6 and Christopher Jones, 2.

On the night, the Wolfpack fired in 15 two-pointers, seven 3-pointers and 10 of 21 free throws while the Tigers connected on 15 deuces, a trio of treys and 18 of 26 charity shots.

West St. Mary _ 2012-2013 District 6-2A Champions _ will play host to Catholic High of New Iberia in the league finale on Friday.
