The port commission submitted an offer of $3 million for the property, structure and equipment remaining after the company closed about a year ago.
Executive Director David Allain said he is awaiting a reply from the owners. He added that there are unnamed clients interested in the facilities if the port acquires the property.
The move is in the early stages, Allain said, with no environmental assessment or other studies as yet scheduled.
He said if the purchase is approved it will likely be accomplished with a combination of cash and bonded funds.
