Lafayette Christian outpointed the Centerville Bulldogs by an 11-9 mark during the second overtime to claim the hard fought 72-70 win.
Centerville opened with a 16-7 run at the end of the firs quarter. The Bulldogs nursed a 30-23 halftime cushion. Lafayette Christian went on a 22-7 third quarter surge to earn a 45-37 lead. Centerville rallied behind an 18-10 run to knot the game at 55-all at the end of regulation. Both squads poured in six points apiece, forcing a second overtime session tied at 61-61. In the second overtime period, Lafayette Christian pulled out the nail-biting 72-70 win behind an 11-9 run.
Jacob Broussard poured in 30 points while Jordan Broussard fired in 13 points to lead Lafayette Christian.
Centerville’s Jumanji Washington connected on eight deuces and one trey to lead the Bulldogs with 19 points.
Juwan Thomas knocked down seven field goals for 14 points while Quinton Nettles made good on one 3-pointer, four deuces and 1 of 2 charity shots for 12 points to polish off the Bulldogs’ double digit scorers.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were: Jerome Williams, 6; Zacchaeus Jackson, 6; Rodney Harris, 4; Cameron Pogue, 3; Courtland Pogue, 3 and Rodrick Harris, 3.
Centerville finished the regular season at 15-14 overall and 4-4 in 8-B.
Lafayette Christian is now 24-5 overall and 5-2 in 8-B.
