While there were a few complaints over the weekend, police said revelers largely were well behaved on both Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras.
One incident of battery on a police officer was reported during the Hephaestus parade after officers received a complaint of a teen throwing something at a float.
Nicholas P. Osburn, 17, of Renwick Boulevard, Berwick, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Marguerite and Eighth streets.
Officers working the parade in that area saw Osburn throw something at a float. He was warned that he would be arrested if he threw anything else, and then he pushed the officer in the chest. He was released after paying $692 bail.
Over the weekend, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies made one DWI arrest and one arrest for simple battery along a parade route and received numerous loud music complaints, but nothing out of the ordinary, said Traci Landry, the sheriff’s public information officer.
Sheriff’s deputies also made two arrests for open containers.
The sheriff’s office also received a lot of loud music complaints over the weekend in the Bayou Vista area, in Cypremort Point and Amelia, she said.
Morgan City police did not make any parade-related arrests over the weekend, said Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Glenn Blanco. Morgan City police made two DWI arrests over the weekend.
