BAYOU VISTA — Gee Garrett hit a home run and a triple and drove in one as Central Catholic defeated Ellender, 4-1, in the Lady Eagles’ season opener Monday.

Garrett also scored a run in the second inning after she easily blasted a home run over the leftfield fence.

While Ellender scored a run in the top of the first, Central Catholic responded with two in the bottom of the frame.

The Lady Eagles added single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Megan Landry earned the complete game victory as she surrendered an unearned run on five hits with a walk and 12 strikeouts.

At the plate, Landry added a double and an RBI.

The Lady Eagles (1-0) will return to action Thursday when they host Central Lafourche in a 5 p.m. contest.

Berwick defeats

Ascension Catholic

Berwick opened its season Tuesday with a 9-4 win against Ascension Catholic on the road.

While the Lady Panthers (1-0) committed four errors to the Lady Bulldogs’ three, they outhit Ascension Catholic 15-8.

Abigail Ohlin had two singles, three RBI and scored a run for the Lady Panthers; Elizabeth Hover had a triple, two RBI and scored a run; and Celeste Bowers, two singles and two RBI.

Other top contributors included Megan Fabre, two hits, including a double, and an RBI; Shannon Theriot three singles, three runs scored and a walk; and Shelby Bergeron, three singles and two runs scored.

Bergeron pitched a complete game for Berwick as she surrendered four runs on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Berwick will return to action Thursday when it travels to Assumption for a 4 p.m. contest.

Patterson, Morgan City

will play today

Patterson’s scheduled season opener against Central Lafourche Tuesday was rained out and will be played today at 4 p.m. in Patterson.

Meanwhile, Morgan City will open its season today at home at 4 p.m. against Thibodaux.
