3 arrested in Amelia bust

AMELIA, La. -- Three people were arrested Wednesday by St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives after they observed a suspected drug transaction in Amelia.

—Christopher Dupre, 19, of La. 662 in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 3:44 p.m. for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

—Grant Walker, 17, of Murial Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:44 p.m. for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

—Derek Gaskins, 32, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. for two counts of distribution of marijuana.

Detectives observed a suspected drug transaction between three male subjects on Friendship Alley in Amelia. As two subjects began to leave the area in a vehicle, detectives conducted a traffic stop. The two subjects were identified as Dupre and Walker and both were found to in possession of marijuana, the report stated. During the investigation, detectives gathered information indicating that Dupre and Walker purchased the marijuana from Gaskins. Walker was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. Dupre was released on a summons to appear in court May 21.

Detectives continued the investigation on Friendship Alley, where they located Gaskins. Gaskins was identified as the third male subject involved in the transaction on Friendship Alley. He was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Timothy Darby, 35, of Hickory Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:29 a.m. Wednesday on two warrants for failure to appear for drug court. Darby was located at the parish courthouse in Franklin on the warrants. He was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $200,000.

—Miranda Brown, 20, of Idaho Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:04 p.m. Wednesday for possession of drug paraphernalia.

—Alicia A. Gilmore, 18, of Idaho Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:04 p.m. Wednesday for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives also received information about possible drug activity in the 400 block of Idaho Street in Morgan City. Detectives proceeded to Idaho Street and made contact with two subjects identified as Gilmore and Brown. Detectives located several items of drug paraphernalia including a pipe, dugout, and rolling machine, according to the report. Gilmore and Brown were each released on a summons to appear in court May 21.

—Jason Paul Crews, 28, of Two Brothers Street in Amelia, was arrested at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday on Friendship Alley in Amelia for obstructing a public passageway and two counts of resisting an officer by force. During an ongoing narcotics investigation, detectives observed Crews walking in the middle of the roadway as traffic approached. When a detective made contact with Crews in order to speak with him, Crews shoved the detective and began to walk away, the report stated. Crews was then detained and following an investigation, was taken to the parish jail and held. Crews was released on a recognizance bail.

Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Glenn Blanco reported the following arrests:

—Dion Maize, 20, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:42 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Maize was observed in the parking lot of Ganaway’s Food Store on Federal Avenue. He was detained and a warrant was confirmed for failure to pay a fine. He was arrested, and the officers located suspected cocaine and an electronic scale in his jacket pocket, the report stated. He was taken to jail and held with no bail set at this time.

—Cheryl Gonzales, 46, of Guzzetta Drive in Berwick, was arrested at 8 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for probation violation. She was taken to jail and held with no bail set at this time.

—Valerie Watson, 49, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:29 a.m. Thursday for aggravated battery-domestic violence

Officers responded to Roderick Street to assist Acadian Ambulance with a subject who had been cut. Upon arrival, they spoke with the victim who advised that he was in a heated argument with his girlfriend over money. She retrieved a knife from a kitchen drawer and began swinging it at him, the report stated. He stated that he received a cut to the right side of his neck and to his right forearm. He was treated at the scene by medical personnel and refused to go to the hospital. Watson was taken to jail and held with no bail set at this time.

Patterson police arrested the following:

—Brodney Williams, 23, North Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:53 a.m. on Feb. 12 for disturbing the peace fighting. Williams paid a fine and was released.

—Tinisha Jones, 22, of Camille Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. on Feb. 12 for disturbing the peace fighting. Jones paid a fine and was released.

—Jamarcus Andre Gunner, 19, of Verdun Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 2:15 a.m. on Feb. 12 for no driver’s license, marijuana possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of Schedule IV drugs and excessive acceleration. Gunner is still being held.

—Ebonie Brown, 23, of Samuel Street in Franklin, was arrested at 2 a.m. on Feb. 13 for disturbing the peace fighting. Brown paid a fine and was released.

—Gianni Colbert, 22, of Main Street in Baldwin, was arrested at 2 a.m. on Feb. 13 for disturbing the peace fighting. Colbert paid a fine and was released.

—Kary Alexie, 47, of Jean Lafitte Boulevard in Lafitte, was arrested at 5:09 p.m. on Feb. 13 for no insurance, driving under suspension. Alexie paid a fine and was released.

—Gilbert Wilson, 32, of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 5:49 p.m. on Feb. 14 on a general speed law sentence from court. Wilson was released on time served.

—Toya M. Comeaux, 32, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:35 a.m. Saturday for DWI first offense, child endangerment, careless operation and no child restraint. Comeaux was released on bail.

—Darnell Montgomery, 51, of Chicago, Ill., was arrested at 5:01 p.m. Saturday for no driver’s license and speeding. Montgomery paid a fine and was released.

—William Closson, 28, of Centerville, was arrested at 12:11 a.m. Sunday for theft shoplifting. Closson paid a fine and was released.

—Soperia Span, 61, of David Drive in Patterson, was arrested for theft of more than $500 and forgery. Span was released on own recognizance.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
