A registered sex offender was arrested by Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputies for possession of a firearm and drug charges after sheriff’s deputies and Louisiana probation and patrol agents visited the homes of several sex offenders to check for possible violations, according to a news release from Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack.

During the operation, registered sex offender Michael Field Jr., 26, of Belle River Road, was found to be in possession of a firearm, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Field was taken to the Assumption Parish Detention Center. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, possession of marijuana fourth offense and possession of drug paraphernalia third offense. His bail had not been set as of the time of the release. Field is registered in connection with a 2008 conviction for indecent behavior with juveniles, according to the release.

Twenty-eight registered sex offenders currently reside in Assumption Parish, the release stated.

During the operation, investigators also learned that another registered offender had moved to Iberia Parish in November 2012 without making the proper notifications to law enforcement agencies in either jurisdiction. The matter is currently under investigation.

Periodic checks of sex offenders’ residences will continue, the release stated.
