Patterson and Central Catholic both remained undefeated to start the softball season with 3-0 and 2-0 marks, respectively, in tournament play this weekend.

Patterson, 5-0, on the season for first-year coach Colby Minton’s first season at the helm, defeated Westgate, 12-5, Friday, and Assembly Christian and Loreauville Saturday, 20-0, and 15-0, respectively, all at the Loreauville tournament.

No individual statistics were available from the contests.

On Thursday, Patterson picked up a 4-3 victory against Ellender on the road.

Carissa Fontenot earned the win as she surrendered three runs (one earned) and one walk while striking out three in seven innings of work.

Arianna Ross was tops for Patterson at the plate with a 1-for-4 performance with three RBIs.

“All four of our runs were scored with two outs,” Minton said. “Our girls did a great job of getting big hits and making plays when the pressure was on them. We fell behind early but didn’t panic. That’s a credit to the girls. They continued to fight and play hard.”

Patterson’s junior varsity game against Hanson today at home has been cancelled due to the Lady Tigers’ participation in the Class 1A basketball quarterfinals today, although Minton said the game would have been cancelled regardless due to inclement weather.

Tuesday’s 6 p.m. home matchup against Covenant Christian is still scheduled to go on as of now.

Central Catholic goes 2-0 at Thibodaux tournament

Central Catholic rolled up 26 runs in two games this weekend in a 2-0 performance at the Thibodaux tournament.

The Lade Eagles defeated East St. John, 17-4 and Assumption, 9-1.

Against East St. John, the Lady Eagles erupted for nine first-inning runs and added two more in the fourth and six more in the fifth to conclude the contest.

East St. John scored a run in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Brittany Longman earned the win as she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings of work.

At the plate, she added a double, a triple, three RBIs, a stolen base and a run.

Other top Central Catholic contributors included Amanda Barron, a home run, a single, three runs and four stolen bases; Kimberly Russo, four singles, an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs; Bridgette Swan, a triple, an RBI and a run; Gee Garrett, an RBI, two stolen bases and a run; Alli Comeaux, a single and an RBI; and Olivia Crawford, a single, three stolen bases and two runs.

Against Assumption, the Lady Eagles scored nine unanswered runs to secure the victory.

The squad put up runs in every inning except the fourth and the bottom of the seventh because they didn’t have to bat.

Megan Landry struck out nine and surrendered just two hits in the complete-game victory. She walked two and surrendered an unearned run.

At the plate, Landry contributed a double and an RBI.

Other top contributors included Swan, two singles, a double, four RBIs and a run; Russo, two singles and an RBI; Garrett, a double and a run; and Celine Flores, two singles and two runs.

In other action, the Lady Eagles picked up a 14-0 victory against Central Lafourche Thursday in five innings.

The Lady Eagles scored two runs each in the first two innings and three more in the third before exploding for seven runs in the fourth.

Hailee Thomas recorded a single, a double, drove in two base runners, scored two runs and stole a base in the victory, while Garrett had two singles, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base.

Other top Lady Eagle contributors included Barron, who recorded a single, a double, an RBI and a run; Russo, two singles, an RBI, four stolen bases and two runs; and Crawford, two singles, an RBI, two stolen bases and two runs.

Central Catholic (4-0) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Assembly Christian at 5 p.m.

Morgan City wins lone game in Terrebonne tourney

Morgan City only could play one of three games in the Terrebonne tourney this weekend due to inclement weather, but the Lady Tigers made the most of it with a 5-3 victory against E.D. White.

Tyler Hebert had a big game for the Lady Tigers as she fanned 12 in the victory. She surrendered three runs on five hits with a walk in the victory.

Morgan Comeaux finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run in the victory, while Katelyn Adams added a 2-for-4 performance with a triple and an RBI.

Other top Morgan City contributors included Celeste Williams, 1-for-4 with an RBI; and Marilynn Bailey and Brandi Ingram, both 2-for-4 with Bailey scoring two runs and Ingram, a run.

In other action, the Lady Tigers fell to Destrehan, 13-7, Thursday on the road.

Bailey led Morgan City with a 3-for-4 performance with a home run, a double, two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs, while Adams added a 1-for-4 performance with a triple and two RBIs.

Other top Lady Tigers’ contributors included Williams, 2-for-3, a double, two RBIs and a walk; Hebert, 2-for-4, a run; and Katelyn Alvarez, 1-for-3, a double and two runs.

On the mound, Hebert fanned four and walked four.

The Lady Tigers’ road game today against Hanson has been postponed, meaning the Lady Tigers (2-1) will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Belle Chasse. Junior varsity action is set for a 4 p.m. start, with varsity play to follow.

Berwick wins one in ACHS tournament

The Berwick Lady Panthers went 1-3 in the Ascension Catholic tournament with a 9-5 victory against Westminster Academy Saturday sandwiched between losses to St. John of Plaquemine, 13-3 on Friday; and 7-4 to Catholic-Point Coupee on Sunday.

No individual statistics were available this morning.

The Lady Panthers (2-2) will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Brusly for a 5 p.m. contest.
