Local softball fans looking to get their fix will have plenty of opportunities this weekend as Patterson will host the first Ned Stephens Memorial Tournament, while Berwick will host its annual Lady Panther Classic.

The Patterson tournament is named in honor of someone who has done “great things” for Patterson High School as well as the City of Patterson, Patterson High softball coach Colby Minton said.

Besides the host Lumberjills, the tournament will feature White Castle, Highland Baptist, Loreauville, Covenant Christian and West St. Mary.

Action will begin Friday when Loreauville faces White Castle at 3:30 p.m., while Highland Baptist will meet West St. Mary at 5:30 p.m. Covenant Christian and Patterson will close out the first day’s action with a 7:30 p.m. contest.

On Saturday, Patterson will open the tournament with a 9 a.m. matchup against White Castle, while White Castle will play immediately after at 11 a.m. against Highland Baptist.

Covenant Christian and Loreauville will play at 1 p.m., while Loreauville will play again at 3 p.m. against Highland Baptist.

West St. Mary will face Covenant Christian at 5 p.m., while Patterson will conclude the tournament with a 7 p.m. matchup against West St. Mary.

In Berwick, both Berwick and Central Catholic will participate in the Lady Panthers’ tournament, which will be played at Berwick High School and the Berwick Civic Complex on Friday.

On Friday, Berwick will face Catholic High-New Iberia at 3:30 p.m. at Berwick High, while Teurlings Catholic will face Central Catholic at 3:30 p.m. at the Berwick Civic Complex.

On Saturday, all games will be played at Berwick High, beginning with a 9 a.m. matchup between Berwick and Central Catholic.

At 11 a.m., Catholic High-New Iberia will meet Teurlings, while at 1 p.m. Central Catholic will face Catholic High-New Iberia.

The tournament will conclude with a 3 p.m. contest between Berwick and Teurlings Catholic.
