BERWICK — The Morgan City High School Tigers run-ruled Ellender, 12-2, in six innings in the opening game of the Berwick Panther Classic Thursday.
While Ellender took a 2-1 lead after their at bat in the top of the fourth, Morgan City exploded with four runs each in the bottom of the third and fourth for a 9-2 advantage.
The Tigers added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth for the finals.
Dylan Hymel led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, two RBIs and two runs and Buck Gautreaux finished 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI.
Other top Morgan City contributors included Ryan Veillion, 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run; Josh Glatter, three RBIs and a run; and Brady Fryou and Evan Stadalis each with an RBI.
“Offensively, we had a better approach at the plate and showed better patience,” Morgan City coach Marc Gonzales said.
On the mound, Glatter earned the complete game victory. In six innings of work, he surrendered two runs (one earned) on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout.
“Josh was very efficient with his pitches today,” Gonzales said. “He stayed ahead in the count and located with the fastball. The defense played well behind him by turning three double plays.”
Berwick defeats Ellender
Berwick broke a tied ball game with five runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings in a 6-1 win against Ellender at the Berwick Panther Classic Thursday.
Berwick, who entered the bottom of the fifth inning tied at 1 against Ellender, scored two runs in the fifth for a 3-1 lead and added three more in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-1 margin.
Neal Theriot, in relief of starter Drew Landry, earned the win. In 3.1 innings, he surrendered a hit, walked two and struck out one.
Landry pitched 3.2 innings and surrendered an unearned run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Top contributors at the plate for Berwick included Ian Bergeron, 2-for-4; Brannon Melancon, 1-for-2, an RBI; Logan Theriot, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Nick Duthu, an RBI.
Patterson falls to Loreauville
The Patterson Lumberjacks scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but it wasn’t enough as they fell to Loreauville, 15-12.
The game was a back-and-forth event as Patterson took a 4-2 lead after an inning of play before Loreauville scored six runs in the top of the second inning and two more in the top of the third for a 10-4 lead.
Patterson responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the advantage to 10-7, but Loreauville extended its lead with three runs in the top of the fifth and another in the sixth for a 14-7 advantage.
Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning and Loreauville scored one in the top of the seventh before Patterson attempted the come-from-behind win.
Loreauville had 16 hits in the win.
As for Patterson, Cameron Fontenot led the way with a 2-for-5 performance with a home run, five RBIs and two runs, while Bryce Tabor was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
Other top Patterson contributors included Deondre Skinner, 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI, and a run; Bobby Jennings, 1-for-2, an RBI and two runs; Taylor Harris, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Dallas Hamlett and Kenny Singleton, each an RBI and a run; and Chris Fuselier, an RBI.
Patterson’s Spencer Landry was tagged with the loss as he surrendered 10 runs — nine earned — on 11 hits in 3.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out three.
