Winning pitcher Emily Chauvin tossed a five-inning shutout while leading the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a 12-0 District 8A opening victory over the Gueydan Honey Bears Tuesday at the HMS Girls Softball Complex.

Champagne turned in a masterful performance, firing a three-hitter over five complete innings, allowing no runs while fanning three and walking one.

Brittney Broussard led the Lady Tigers balanced attack with a 3 for 4 effort with one RBI and two runs. Ashley Champagne also had a good day at the plate with a 2 for 3 which included a double and two runs. Macie Guillotte and Mackenzie Hebert also collected two hits in three plate appearances for the Lady Tigers. Guillotte went 2 for 3, 1 RBI and two runs while Mackenzie Hebert recorded a 2 for 3 outing with one run and a pair of RBIs.

Other top hitters for the Hanson Lady Tigers were: Paige Diamond, 1 for 2, 2R, 2RBI, walk; Kim Sonnier 1 for 3, run, RBI and Morgan Baudoin, 1 for 3, RBI.

The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers (1-0 in District 8-A) will travel to face Ascension Episcopal Thursday in Youngsville in league play before traveling to Hahnville for tournament games Friday and Saturday.
