HMS Tigers rally by FSHS Hornets

John Guienze threw 3 1/3 innings of two-hit baseball in relief and the Hanson Memorial Tigers rallied for a 7-4 victory over the Franklin Senior High School Hornets Tuesday at the Amar Lancon Field .

Guienze collected the mound victory, outdueling Franklin’s Jarion Brown, who took the loss. Guienze appeared in relief and fired 3 1/3 innings of shut out baseball, fanning six batters over the span. Brown suffered the loss after appearing in relief of Franklin starter Devonte Joseph, who worked 2 and 2/3 frames. Brown hurled two-thirds of an inning before giving way to Allen Randle, who went the final 3 1/3 frames.

Leading hitters for the HMS Tigers were: Drake Businelle, 3 for 4, double, RBI, 3 stolen bases; John Guienze, 1 for 3, double and Bryce Ronsonet, 1 for 2, 2 runs.

Hanson (6-1) spotted Franklin a 4-2 lead before rallying for the 7-4 victory with five runs over middle three frames.

Franklin opened the contest with four runs, building a 4-2 advantage in the top half of the fourth frame. Franklin’s Jarion Brown, Allen Randle, Brandon McFarlane and Shon Johnson all tagged home plate, lifting Franklin to the early lead.

Guienze registered the mound victory, shutting down the Hornets batters over the final 3 1/3 innings.

Franklin’s Allen Randle led the Hornets at the plate with a pair of hits in three plate appearances. Randle finished the night with a 2 for 3 effort with one run. Brandon McFarlane went 1 for 3 with an RBI-double. Other top hitters for Franklin (1-5) were: Devonte Joseph, 1 for 3, RBI; Jarion Brown, 1 for 4, double, run; Austin Betrand, 1 for 3; Shon Johnson, run and Demontee Mickles, RBI; three innings.

Hanson will play in the Plaquemine Tournament on Friday and Saturday in its next outing.

Franklin will play host to Northside on Thursday at 6 p.m.
