David Bias faces a sentence of up to 99 years of hard labor on the armed robbery conviction, and an additional five years of hard labor for having a firearm in the armed robbery. On the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Bias faces a sentence of up to 20 years. A judge would impose the sentences without parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
On May 21, 2010, the Morgan City Police Department received a complaint that a Southern Recycling truck driver had been robbed at gunpoint of cash and a cell phone.
Bias was found by Morgan City police in a local motel room in possession of the gun described by the robbery victim as well as the victim’s cell phone.
Additionally, Morgan City police detectives were able to match the soles of the shoes in Bias’ possession to footprints at the scene of the crime, the release stated.
Bias will be sentenced July 10.
