Leger put his tee shot only 13 inches from the pin on the 113-yard ninth hole at Oakbourne Country Club Friday on the third of nine days of qualifying. Friday's other qualifiers at Oakbourne were Johnny Simons of Breaux Bridge (6' 5"), Matt Andrus of Lafayette (9' 1"), Brandon Simons of Breaux Bridge (10' 4") and Richard Gillette of Lafayette (10' 8").
That fivesome advances to the finals on Sunday, March 17, at Le Triomphe’s 8th hole, where all qualifiers will take aim at a $1 million prize for a hole-in-one.
Qualifying continues Saturday on the third hole at Les Vieux Chenes beginning at 7 a.m. Future qualifying events are scheduled Sunday at The Wetlands and Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16, at Le Triomphe.
Two days of qualifying will also be staged on the PGA Tour Simulator at The Golf Connection store on Pinhook Road on Wednesday and Thursday, March 13 and 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. daily. The five closest shots to the simulated hole during the week will also earn spots in the finals.
Players may also secure an automatic spot in the finals with a $100 contribution, which may be made at the qualifying locations or sent directly to the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, 124 Heymann Blvd. Suite 105, Lafayette, LA 70503.
This year’s Hole-In-One Shootout is being conducted by and benefits the Animal Rescue Foundation, an all-volunteer non-profit animal rescue and adoption group dedicated to improving the lives and welfare of homeless dogs. More information on ARF is available online at www.arf-la.org.
