MORGAN CITY, La. -- A Berwick man was arrested Sunday by Morgan City police after he allegedly struck a fence on Francis Drive and fled the scene, according to Police Chief Travis Crouch.

Jade Aucoin, 21, of Renwick Boulevard in Berwick, was arrested at 5:02 a.m. Sunday for hit and run driving, reckless operation of a vehicle, DWI third offense, simple battery on a police officer and public intimidation.

Morgan City police officers were dispatched to the area of Justa Street and Francis Drive in reference to a hit and run. While they were en route, another call came in of a vehicle dragging a piece of fencing on Jennie Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed a person, identified as Aucoin, walking from the vehicle. Police determined that the vehicle that Aucoin was operating had struck a fence and a rear wall to the residence on Francis Drive. As the vehicle left the scene, part of the fencing became lodged underneath the vehicle.

The driver left the scene and also struck a mailbox on Karen Drive, the report stated. Aucoin was found to have been drinking and failed a field sobriety test. Aucoin was arrested and was given an intoxilyzer test which yielded a result of .105 grams-percent blood alcohol content. During the booking process, he struck an officer on his arm and made threats to cause harm to the officer once he is released from jail, the report stated. Aucoin was taken to jail and held with bail set at $125,000.
