Speakers for the St. Mary AARP meeting March 4 were the Cypress Sawmill Festival teen and miss queens. Miss Queen Jessica Decuir and Teen Queen Carley Gravois issued invitations for everyone to attend the Cypress Sawmill Festival being held April 5 to 7 at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.

The festival will feature a variety of family-friendly activities from carnival rides and live music to men’s softball and arts and crafts.

Morgan City attorney Greg Aucoin sponsored the meeting’s meal of white beans and rice, beet salad and bread. Members preparing the meal were Pat Fryer, Mac McNemar and Linda Darce. This is the 12th year Aucoin has sponsored a meal for St. Mary AARP, according to Paul Vella, organization president.

Vice president Curtis Leonard chaired the meeting and sang the national anthem. Secretary Jane Aucoin gave the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

Members were extended an invitation to attend the Maison Jardin craft show Saturday in Morgan City and March 22 hospice program at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center.

Those in attendance were also reminded that the St. Mary AARP dance will be held 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the center. Live music will be by Rockin Oldies from Houma. Tickets are $6 until Friday or $10 at the door.

The last two openings for the group’s trip to New York City in June are available by calling 384-2277.

The next St. Mary AARP meeting will be on April 1. Teche Federal Bank will sponsor the meal of beef stew and vegetables over rice, salad and bread. The Pat Fryer team will prepare the meal.

Wendy Blouin with Fresenius Medical Care in Baton Rouge will give a program on the perils of kidney failure and dialysis.
