St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the arrest of James Washington Jr., 65, of 119 Bray Lane, Franklin.
Washington and the victim, whose name was not released, were involved in a disagreement at her Gum Street residence that allegedly led to Washington stabbing her repeatedly with a knife.
She fled to a friend’s home on Mitchell Street where a call to 911 was made at about 10 p.m. The victim was transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital for treatment. She is in stable but guarded condition.
Deputies located Washington at his residence and arrested him on a charge of attempted second degree murder at 7 a.m. Wednesday. He was held on $150,000 bond.
Hebert said an investigation is continuing.
